Richard is the partner in charge of the Business Risk and Regulation department of Ashfords Solicitors LLP.  He advises organisations on how to deal with the many demands of the regulatory landscape, with particular emphasis on dealings with the HSE, Environment Agency, Local Authorities, Food Standards, DEFRA etc.

Richard defends organisations both in the private and public sector, recently achieving a high profile acquittal of his client following a prosecution resulting from a major explosion in Manchester.  As well as defending, Richard provides advisory and training seminars to allow organisations to deal with their health and safety and environmental challenges.  He is fairly uniquely qualified to provide this service as previous to becoming a solicitor he spent years in the HSE investigating accidents and, where appropriate, prosecuting.  He specialised in the major hazard industries such as oil and energy.

Richard also spent two years as a risk management consultant leading teams both home and abroad.  Richard started his career as a science teacher in the UK and abroad, has a master’s degree in environmental toxicology, and is an IEMA qualified environmental auditor and an experienced commercial mediator.
