Cathy has a financial background as well as environmental qualifications, and worked for South West Water for 13 years. She successfully drove sustainability into the organisation by establishing and chairing an employee-led in-house sustainability forum, and by setting annual targets to deliver improved environmental performance. Cathy wrote the company’s annual Sustainability Report, and serviced the Pennon Group Sustainability Committee which comprised the non-Executive Directors and Chief Executives of South West Water and Viridor.
She takes a pragmatic approach to delivering cost savings in conjunction with environmental best practice, for example she worked with the Procurement Department to source contractors who improved recycling and waste management at significantly reduced cost. Further South West Water projects included establishing an employee volunteering programme to strengthen the company’s community engagement and enhance team building, and improving habitat management to benefit wildlife on operational sites. Cathy now works for Westcountry Rivers Trust delivering improvements in catchment management to benefit river water quality and fisheries. She also gives talks to raise funds and awareness for WaterAid
